Have you ever wondered where rubber ducks stop on their way back north? On Saturday, April 28 at 2:30 pm, 250 rubber ducks will land in Sperryville for a race down the Mighty Thornton River. The race will start at the Sperryville Main Street bridge by Happy Camper Equipment Co. and pass Before & After, Hopkins Ordinary, Headmaster Pub to cross the finish line at the River District. You can join the party by purchasing a raffle ticket, supporting Sperryville, and coming down to enjoy the race. Proceeds from the sell of raffle tickets will go to Sperryville beautification projects. Here's how it works: - Buy a $10 duck raffle ticket from any Sperryville business participating (list coming soon) before Friday, April 27 at 5:00 pm. The number on the ticket corresponds to a number on a duck. - Ducks will be launched from the Main Street bridge at 2:30 pm on Saturday, April 28 (April 29 if its raining). They will race down the Thornton to the River District, where they will be recaptured. - Prizes (which will be announced at a later date) will be awarded to the first five ducks that cross the finish line. Of course, the ducks must race at their own pace. If they take a break, a race official will help them along the way. You can help cheer them on, but no touching! - Have fun! Bring the kids!
