The Scrabble School Preservation Foundation, Castleton, presents a book talk by Darrell Howard, Author, “Sunday Coming”—Black Baseball in Virginia.  Back in the day, the local ball field was the place to be for African American communities on Sunday afternoons. In Rappahannock County, people would root for the home teams, the Sperryville Tigers and the Washington Monarchs. Black baseball teams were common in Virginia during segregation, when blacks and whites could not play baseball together. Some leagues continue to this day.

Mr. Howard will sign autographs and copies of his book (pre-purchased). A second printing is forthcoming (TBA). Refreshments will be served. This is a free event for the whole family! Be sure to bring your photos and your memories!. For more information, contact Nan Butler Roberts at 540-661-2013 or email nb_roberts@msn.com or contact@scrabbleschool.org
