Kim Herbstritt, Community Foundation of the Northern Shenandoah Valley

An important strategy to a successful advocacy campaign is engaging a broad array of individuals to champion efforts in the community.  Neighborhood groups, nonprofits, law enforcement, schools, and churches are just some of the important partners, but don’t forget to engage elected officials.Nonprofits and government serve the community and together they can work to solve complex issues requiring the design and implementation of strategies at all levels including policy. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the importance of engaging elected officials
  • Understand issues from the big picture perspective
  • Practice strategies for engaging elected officials 

Target Audience: All nonprofit staff and board members

Program attendance is complimentary for board, staff and volunteers of organizations
operating within the PATH Foundation service area (northern Culpeper, Fauquier
and Rappahannock counties). For participants from other organizations, a $25
charge applies

Kim Herbstritt is an accomplished nonprofit leader who has worked with a range of organizations from small to large.  She has designed and executed evidence-based strategies, training, and technical assistance utilizing media advocacy and community organizing, resulting in policy adoption and enforcement.  She managed a cross-border project to address alcohol-related problems, which received national recognition as a Model Program by >span class="TextRun SCXW249189296 BCX0" lang="EN-US" xml:lang="EN-US" data-contrast="none">. Her background spans such topics as: alcohol and other drugs, tobacco control, childhood obesity, community policing, child sex trafficking, and gangs.  She received her Masters in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from the University of San Diego.  She is the Director of Community Investment at the Community Foundation of the Northern Shenandoah Valley, the Chair of the Nonprofit Alliance of the Northern Shenandoah Valley, a small business owner, and a member of the council of the City of Winchester.
