Davette Leonard is an artist who has been living and working in gorgeous Rappahannock County for over three decades. Although she is known for her realistic still life oil paintings Davette uses her flair for realism to paint portraits of pets. Given photographs to work from, Davette is able to capture the personality and essence of your cherished animal friends. Her love for traditional painting techniques, including oil glazes and complex color mixing, finds its way into her pet portraits and produces a realism and depth of color and texture that help to make her pet portraits come alive.

Golden Retreat For K9's is a luxury dog resort with suites (not cages or runs) and a spacious play area where your dog can have fun while your away. We are not your traditional boarding kennel. Each room is decorated and has a toddler bed, sofa or doggie bed, fans and full view windows and doors providing natural light. There are no doggie doors. Dogs are let out by us five times per day! This gives your pet the feeling of being at home. At our dog resort we provide a vacation experience for your dog. In the summer time treat your buddy to a swim in our saltwater pool. You can be assured that they are safe, secure and having fun while you are away. If your dog is an only child we will try and team her/him up with a playmate while they are here. Your photo session can be held in my studio near Orlean, VA, which has both indoor and safe, outdoor space in beautiful woodland. Alternatively, I can bring my studio to either your home or your favorite outdoor space. I travel across the throughout the northern and central regions of Virginia and Washington DC Metro areas.

I have worked for more than 12 years as a photographer and have received a prestigious World Press Photo Award and multiple national and international newspapers placements, including the New York Times, International New York Times, The Times of London, and People, among many others. My work has been exhibited and sold internationally in Asia, Europe, the UK and the USA. I am a member of the association of Professional Photographers of America, the British Royal Photographic Society, the Orlean Artist Collective (OAC) and HeARTs Speak, a global organization that pairs artists with local animal shelters to help raise their profile and adoption success.

Since moving to Virginia in May 2018, I have partnered with a number of organizations to help with their adoption efforts including photographing the dogs and cats at WAAAG, (the Washington Area Animal Adoption Group) and some of the huge beautiful dogs at the Colonial Newfoundland Rescue and the Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue.

Specializing in pampered boarding for dogs, cats and exotics, our facility is like a B&B for pets, a campground for pampered pets and a visit to Grandma's house, all in one. We custom designed and built this unique facility to keep pets safe and happy during their visit, giving them a fun-filled vacation of their own and then see them go home with "Happy Tails." Our home is connected to and part of the Pet Tailor's facility, located in scenic Rappahannock County. Being a smaller Ma & Pa facility allows our guests to get to know us like family and we can give them more personal care with our live-in 24/7 supervision.

Southpaw Pet Salon is a home-based salon. This allows for low volume, low-stress, high quality grooming. Appointments are scheduled between 8 am and 6 pm Tuesday through Saturday.
